Sandra Di Leo is a Canadian contemporary artist influenced by American abstract expressionism. She was born in Wawa (ON) in 1978 and resides in Toronto (ON). She studied art and design at George Brown College where she graduated from the Graphic Design program in 2000. Sandra has been working as a designer since graduation and has won numerous international awards, while continuing her practice and uncompromising commitment to painting; she has been painting since childhood. The elements and principles of graphic design play a significant role in her art. She works solely in acrylics, exploring themes that are both imaginary and real through the fundamentals of colour, composition and texture. Her artistic style captures a dynamic energy and emotional intensity through expressive colours, layering and her signature black lines which create an impression of spontaneity. Colour can influence our mood and behaviour by evoking their underlying emotional associations, Sandra applies bold colour palettes through the use of colour psychology — viewers experience moments of positive emotional intensity through colour instead of words. Sandra’s painting "Sleep, My Darling Sleep" was recently curated into an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO), she regularly exhibits in art galleries and major international art fairs. Sandra’s artworks are in private and corporate collections.
